DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY
The Department of Surgery at Balıkesir University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine deals with the medical, conservative and surgical treatment of surgical diseases in animals. Approximately 1,500 patients receive healthcare services at the clinics operating within the Animal Hospital each year. In addition to theoretical courses offered within undergraduate and graduate programmes, students gain experience and skills in the diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases in small animals, farm animals, sport horses, and some exotic animals through clinical and programmed applications. The Radiology Unit provides services to all clinics and, when necessary, provides anaesthesiology and resuscitation support to other clinics in addition to its own patients. In addition to routine clinical practice, faculty members also conduct scientific research for educational and research purposes.
Both undergraduate and graduate students attend compulsory and elective courses to acquire the basic knowledge and expertise required of a veterinarian in surgical matters. The Department of Surgery, which began awarding master's degrees in 2020, has so far successfully completed a total of 14 master's students.
